Tea for Two: The Perfect Way to Wind Down

This weekend called for some well-deserved R&R, so my amiga and I decided to visit a small mountain town called Julian, California. Julian is located about an hour's drive east of San Diego but looks nothing like the city. With its historical buildings that date back more than 100 years and its small-town charm, you'd think you've traveled back to a simpler time and far away from the city. I enjoy visiting Julian during the fall to experience the changing of the seasons. The falling leaves and colorful autumn foliage make this town look so picturesque. In the fall, the weather in Julian can get a little chilly, so we packed a cozy outfit and hit the road. Once we arrived, we headed to our favorite tea place, Julian Tea, for a tea party.

About Julian Tea and Cottage Art

Julian Tea and Cottage Art is a house that was built in 1898 and then converted into a tea room in 1995. In addition to being a tea room, they also sell a wide variety of teas and houseware items on the second floor. They have indoor and outdoor seating options, but we opted to sit inside since it was a bit chilly.

Our Experience

We were seated at a table with a window facing the street, adding to the autumn experience by giving us a glimpse of the colorful trees that lined the street. Their menu has a wide variety of options, but we ordered the Cottage Classic, a four-course tea. We ordered two small pots of tea, black vanilla chai, and gingerbread. If I had to pick a favorite of the two teas, I would go with gingerbread because it had a perfect balance of spicy gingerbread, cinnamon, and vanilla. The service began with a delicious cup of pumpkin soup accompanied by a mini cheese scone.

The second course included five finger sandwiches, all delightful in their own way. But the chicken curry croissant sandwich was my favorite.

Then we enjoyed a scone with whipped cream, lemon curd, or jam. The scone was golden on the outside and flakey on the inside. In other words, it was baked to perfection! Lastly, for dessert, we had bread pudding that was heavenly!

It felt so good to escape the chaos of the busy city to visit such a quaint town for a tea party. Overall, it was such a calming and relaxing experience. We enjoyed delectable light refreshments while we talked our worries away. No matter how busy we are, we must remember to take time for ourselves every now and then. If you're interested in visiting the Julian Tea and Cottage Art, I recommend making a reservation as they are almost always booked.
